Bone Grafting

Periodontal disease can cause the jawbone to become too weak to support a dental implant or other dental prosthesis. In cases like this, Dr. Capellan will often recommend bone grafting (also known as natural bone regeneration) to promote healthy bone growth and thicken your jawbone. Over time, your jawbone will naturally regenerate and become strong enough to support a dental implant.

Oral Pathology

Oral pathology allows Dr. Capellan to identify and treats diseases of the mouth and maxillofacial region. Diagnosis is completed through in-office examinations, x-ray technology, microscopic and biochemical evaluations. Some of the diseases oral pathologists diagnose include mouth and throat cancer, mumps, salivary gland disorders, ulcers, odontogenic infection, and more.

Tooth Extractions

Extraction is a last resort, but sometimes it is necessary. Badly infected teeth can jeopardize the health of their neighbors, including healthy teeth and gum tissue. Fortunately, we can help!

Tooth Extraction Site Preservation

When a tooth is removed, Dr. Capellan always considers how to preserve the the empty space in the mouth after removal. Wisdom teeth are unique, located in the back of the mouth, so that extraction site will heal on its own without specific site preservation.

However, if a tooth is removed from another part of the mouth, the jawbone can degenerate and change shape as the mouth heals if the extraction site is not preserved. This degeneration can cause healthy teeth to shift and cause problems with a patient's bite and speaking ability.

If you have a tooth that needs to be extracted, talk to Dr. Capellan about what you would like to do after removal. If you want to replace the tooth with a dental implant or a bridge, she will be able to make a recommendation and create a specialized treatment plan for your smile.
